The Devil’s Speedboat

The Devil climbed into his speedboat and revved the engine. It belched smoke and roared like a lawn mower.

He put the engine into gear and cruised away from the dock. In the distance a group of inmates were standing about sipping tea.

Was it earl grey tea?

The Devil headed straight for them. They ducked under as he grew close and hugged the bottom. The boat ploughed over them but did not touch anybody.

It was possible to breathe underneath the surface. It was possible to breathe but it was not possible to see.

It was possible to breathe if you covered your nose to stop particles going into your nostrils and blocking them.

It was possible to breathe and it was possible to smell but it was not possible to see.
