    Dear Mr Mark and Aaron,
I received mail that contained my lesson. But, when i opend that mail, i couldn’t find where to listen or to download the mp3 and the transcript. Could you show me how to listen my lesson and to download mp3 audio and transcript.
    Thank so much.

  275. erik says:

Hello, I just have a very simple question,in the sentence. Mark: How much is he going to pay the two Japanese guys up front?

    What does “up front” mean?
I think it means “in advance” or something like that but I´m not really sure.

I have this other concern. Sometimes it is a little difficult to understand someone because that person used a phrasal verb which meaning I do not know.
I know phrasal verbs work in an idiom-like way, so my question is:
Is there a way I can infer the meaning of phrasal verbs? and, does that represent a problem to English native speakers as well?

Thank you for your time, I hope you can help me.

  276. Om972 says:

Thanks, your lesson are very useful 🙂

  277. silvia says:

thank you so much for the lesson.I really understand it and i can answer the question correctly.maybe coz they re speaking slowly and the vocabularies re still familiar to me.But I still have a guestion about the expressions I bet he does,I bet it is,I bet it’s quiet too.when do we use these expressions.thank you.

    • Hi Silvia. We often use expressions containing ‘I bet…’ when we are responding to someone speaking with us. We could easily replace expressions using ‘I bet…’ with ‘I’d imagine…’ or ‘X must be…’. For example:

A: My mother worked hard all day, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. She is exhausted.

      B: I bet she is.
      B: I’d imagine she is.
      B: She must be.

In this case, it is no surprise to B that A’s mother is very tired. Likewise B could make a guess about A’s mother’s condition even before A says anything about it. Like this:

      A: A: My mother worked hard all day, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

      B: I bet she’s exhausted.
      B: I’d imagine she’s exhausted.
      B: She must be exhausted.

I hope this explanation makes it clearer.

  278. Renée says:

I was very happy hearing and understanding the vocabulary
    Thank you very much

  292. Jayant says:

    Hello madhu

what u suggested is good. hope the teachers look into it

  293. Madhu Payyandan says:

    Dear Mr Mark and Aaron

I have just got my daughter start the lesson, now with lesson 3. It seems pretty interesting. But I must say something of siginificance in terms of fluency development. None of the similar courses I have come across earlier let the student have a hang of how heated verbal exchanges, vociferous quarrel using swear words sometimes verges on real fight takes place between native speakers.

For example, you are driving a car and another car, obviously because of the drives mistake, runs into yours and you get out of the car wanting to pull him up. But he tries to shout you down as if it is your fault which leaves you flared up and you break into swearing to prove your innocence and so on.

Or, you are at a bank or a travel agent or something and the staff attending you kind of you mess you around and you shout the piss out of that guy.

These are situation we often run into our daily life but fumble when we have to manage in English. So do your lessons include anything of the sort in store for the leaners ? If not please include a dozen of such contexts. At least send a couple of stuff to mail ID.

    Thanks and Regards

    Madhu P.

  390. janeide says:

Me desculpe! mas ninguém aprende inglês escrevendo e vendo, primeiro pq existe uma diferença muito grande entre escreve e falar, pq em inglês a pronuncia não tem nada a ver com a escrita, então não adianta lição sem o audio. Para aprender mesmo vc precisa ouvir o som das palavras, se não fica igual cursinho, que vc passa a vida toda estudando gramatica e escrevendo e na hora de falar não sai nada.

  399. samar wafik says:

Thanks a lot . I understand the conversation and I’ve already filled all the gaps except for the conversation comments like Hm , Uh-Huh …etc . Also, I don’t know or understand the expression ” I bet he does/ it is .” Can you give me an explanation for them, please? Thanks a lot

    • Aaron says:

Hi Samar….”I bet he does” and “I bet it is” are other ways of saying “I understand and it does not surprise me”. We say this when we here something that we expect to be true. For example, if you tell me that it is very hot at noon in the Sahara desert, I will say, “I bet it is.” Or if you say, “My mother loves me very much.” I will say “I bet she does.”

However, if you tell me something that is the opposite of what I expect, I will be surprised and say something like, “Really?” or “You’re kidding me!” For example, if you say, “I spent the afternoon playing with wild tigers.” I will say, “You’re kidding me!.” That would be hard to believe.

    • Lena says:

Dear Mark and Aaron! Thanks for a lesson 3. I’ve check my answer and found a 2 problems. On the one hand I don’t anderstand the mean ideoms (?) “I bet it is quiet” and “savvy”.
On the other , hand,it was not simply to hearing and writing at the same time. But i’ll try to change that situation.
      Sincerely, Lena.

      • Aaron says:

        Hi Lena…

“I bet” is another way of saying “I think” or “I suspect” or “It is likely that” Here are some examples:

“I bet the Sahara desert is really hot and dry.”
“I bet Barack Obama is a good man.”
“I bet winter in Russia is freezing cold.”

As for ‘savvy’, it is another way of saying “very smart” or “very shrewd” or “practically intelligent”. Here are some examples:

“Hilary Clinton is a savvy politician”
“My uncle is a savvy investor”

        Good questions Lena!

  498. Adbulkareem says:

    THello Mark & Aaro
thank you for your lesson.I try my best.

  499. Mark White says:

    Hi Nguyen Cuong

It is probable too easy for you. We all have different levels. If you can handle real movies, that is good. Many students cannot do that.

This course tries to help people who can not handle fast natural conversation. It is slow in the begining but it gets faster and faster and the grammar gets more and more complex.

The idea is to start easy and get harder.
The idea is to start slow and get faster.
The idea is to start simple and get more complex.

“That makes sense” means “I see what you mean”.

    “Oh boy!” means “wow!”.

  500. nguyen cuong says:

Thank you for your lesson.I try my best to follow you. There some phrases or idoms that I can not understand. Please explain more clearly,”Oh boy”, “That makes sense”
    Thanks again!
    Your learner
    Nguyen Cuong

  501. Duc says:

I learn a couple of new words/ common phrase. So thanks a lot!
Maybe you shuold talk a little faster because in the real world they talk really quickly (eg. in the movie)

  505. Hyder Ali Khattak says:

Hey.Good morning teachers, first of all i persnally appreacite your conversations method.because now a day, nobody spend a time any benifit for the humanbody, and i againe appreacite your possitve free of coast educational prog’m.sir,i have one question. How to learn english very fast(within 2-3 months)? how i can speak fluently in only 2-3 months.usually we are in hury because i have a test or interview coming is posible to learn english super fast?i hope you will give me any good salotion. Thanks,God blease. Hyder Ali Khattak.

    • Aaron says:

Hi Hyder…thank you for your comment. Is it possible to speak a language fluently in 2-3 months? I would imagine so, but I suspect it would require complete immersion and constant interaction in the foreign language. For most people that is not possible. The closest you could come would be to continuously listen to English and practicing speaking it out loud or “in your head” every day without fail. You will improve greatly, but I wonder whether you would achieve fluency or not? Maybe YOU can do it! Only one way to find out…..

    • Mark White says:

      Hi Hyder Ali Khattak

Yeah I think you can do it but that means you have to be completely devoted to your task. Start off by listening to all the conversations in our Real Conversations section and also all the dialogues in the Dialogues section. Also read all the interactive stories and find a partner who can work through them with you.

You can do it but you have to act now. Do not leave it to the last minute. Start now! Let us know how you go.

      Good luck!

  506. fyda says:

    hi teacher,

i had done the lesson 3 and i did very good!. I am looking forward for more challenge on learning english.

  513. Okuba says:

Thank you very much for your help us freely to all around the world

Who knows the two Japanese Mark or Aaron means who is the teller of the conversational story about the two Japanese, when look at the dialoge it seems that first Mark is the teller but when you go down at the sentence of “What are they wearing” he asks to Aaron i have got is that right to have this kind of conversation
or that it mean both of them are known to the engineers.

    • Mark White says:

In some episodes Mark is the storyteller.
In other episodes Aaron is the story teller.

That way both learners can try both skills when they work through a story together.

  514. mehmet gecit says:

I would just thank you for what you are doing . I would ask about the method . could you both tell me how extreme this method could go I mean when I can speak properly and automatically .

    • Aaron says:

Ahmed…the more you use it, the better you will become. After using the method repeatedly for a long time, you will then have to evaluate whether or not it is working well for you.
