Eventually the two boys were both adopted.
They were adopted. (passive voice)
Somebody adopted them. (active voice)
Somebody took them into their care. (active voice)
They were taken into somebody’s care. (passive voice)
They were taken into the care of a family. (passive voice)
Other nuances of adopted:
