“The events surrounding” is a very common phrase.

Do you know how to use it?

Look at this example:

Which period of history are you interested in?

Tell us something about the events surrounding that period. We want to know why you are interested in it.

History, you see, is a big story and each country has its own history or story. When the stories don’t fit together, we know that there is a mistake. Maybe somebody is lying or somebody is being lied to. Maybe somebody is manipulating and somebody is being manipulated. Or maybe not. But what is the truth?

The Big Question

Can you write and speak about a historical period?
Can you really do it?
Are you able to?
Are you really able to do it?
Tell me.
Tell me the truth!

Did you just look at everything and not open your mouth or write a single word?
Are you absolutely confident that you can do it, although you have never done it?

Are you sure you are able to do it?

If the answer is “yes”, then write something for us at the English Conversations Almanac.
Tell us what is happening in the world.
Tell us what is happening in your world.
Write for the world.
People all over the world in many countries can see what you write immediately.
Write it for us.
Tell us your story.
Write history for us.
Inform us.
Tell us what is happening.
Tell us what is going on.
Now the big question is:

Will you do it?
Can you do it?

Would you please do it?

Will you …? (simple request)
Can you …? (request or question about ability)
Would you please … ? (very polite request)
