There was

At the top of the rock there was a ledge.
There was a ledge and it ran into an opening in the rock.
There was a man at the top of a rock and he found a small opening in the rock:

It was

It was a small opening.
It was a small cave.
It was a cave in the rock.

The Shelf of Rock

He crawled

The man crawled into a cave in the top of the rock and he lay on a shelf and wept.

The Man’s Tears and his Prayers

He wept

He wept and he prayed.

The Prayer

May Jesus Christ have mercy on all souls.

May Jesus Christ have mercy on all souls.

May Jesus Christ have mercy on all souls.

May Jesus Christ have mercy on all souls.

He stayed

The man stayed in the cave at the top of the rock for a long time.

He hid

He hid from the war.

He got

He got hungry but he did not go out.
He got lonely but he did not go out.
He got bored and finally he went out.

He went out

He went out and he walked around.

He walked

He walked through the landscape.

There were

There were many dead bodies.
There were birds and animals.

They were feeding

The birds and animals were feeding.

He prayed

The man prayed.

He continued to pray

He continued to pray.

He did not stop praying.

May Jesus Christ have mercy on all souls.
May Jesus Christ have mercy on all souls.
May Jesus Christ have mercy on all souls.
May Jesus Christ have mercy on all souls.

The man came to a house and fields. He came to a woman who had been raped. He came to a child who had been murdered. He came upon his own friends. His own friends were murderers. His own friends the soldiers were murderers. He ran away. He ran away crying and praying.

He ran through the forest.
He ran through the forest of life.
He came to a huge tree.
He took shelter under the tree.

The Snake under the Rock

The man walked around the tree.
He came to a huge rock.
He took shelter under the rock.

There was a snake under the rock.

The snake spoke to him.
The snake spoke to the man from the middle of the road.
The snake spoke to the man from the middle of the road and he told him to sleep.

The man slept.
He slept for a long time.

When he woke up the snake was gone.

Had he imagined it?
Had it really happened?

He wondered.
He wondered if it had really happened.

He walked further through the forest of life.

He came to a huge river.
It was a raging current.
The man from the middle of the road could not cross the raging torrent.

The Bottom of the River
