The Lives of a Man – The Road


There was

There was a man.

He was

He was walking along a road.
He was walking along a road and he was praying as he walked.
He was saying the same prayer over and over again.

The Prayer

May Jesus Christ have mercy on all souls.

He came

The man came to the edge of the city.

It led

The road led out of the city.


He followed

The man followed the road.


He walked past

He walked past houses and fields.

Some People

They were working

Some people were working in the fields

They watched

They watched the man.
They watched the man as he walked past.

The Farmer

he gave

One farmer gave the man a loaf of bread.


he thanked

The man thanked the farmer.
He thanked the farmer and he continued on his way.

Walking

He kept walking.
He kept praying.

Forgetting


he forgot

After a while the man forgot where he was.
After a while the man forgot who he was.

The Man’s Persistence

He kept

He kept walking.
He kept praying.
He kept repeating the same prayer over and over and over again.

The Prayer

The Mountains

It led

The road led up into the mountains.

He followed

The man followed the road and he did not stop praying.

The Man’s Hunger

The man was hungry.
He was hungry and he stopped at the side of the road.

he ate

He stopped at the side of the road and he ate.

He ate some of the bread.

He ate some of the bread and he put the rest back into his pocket.

He put it back into his pocket.

He put it back into his pocket and then he continued walking.
He continued walking and praying.

The man followed the road higher and higher into the mountains.
It was cold and the man grew cold.
He grew cold but he did not stop walking.

After a while the man fell down.
He fell down in the middle of the road at the top of a mountain pass.

The man began to feel sleepy.

He remembered the city and the church.

He remembered his chickens.
He remembered the storm.

He remembered the prayer.
He remembered the road.
He remembered the prayer.

The man stood up and he started walking again.

He walked over the mountain pass and down the other side.
As he walked he prayed.

He kept walking and he kept praying.
